The Princess Perfume

It is no surprise that the now Duchess of Cambridge left any detail unattended to on her wedding day. And her fragrance was not forgotten. According to basenotes.com, Kate Middleton chose to wear White Gardenia Petals by Illuminum for her big day. The little known scent is described as a delicate and refined combination of lily, white gardenia, muguet, jasmine and amber wood.

White Gardenia Petals is available for preorder on Lucky Scent for $140. Act fast, this princess perfume will no doubt sell out as quick as a royal kiss.

Designer of the Moment: Sarah Burton

Sarah Burton at the Met's "Savage Beauty: Alexander McQueen" opening night gala

Probably the most buzzed about designer in the world right now -- the creator of THE  royal wedding gown -- is Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen. Manchester-born and London-based, Burton, 36, took the reigns at Alexander McQueen in May 2010, after Lee McQueen, the label's founder died in February. She had been at the brand since 1996, starting as an intern and eventually became McQueen's right-hand up until his death. She presented her first collection as head designer in September 2010. The line -- retaining the signature McQueen edge -- was a success. But no doubt she was put on the map as the designer of Kate Middleton's wedding dress.

Certainly no dress has ever before created such speculation, rumors and anticipation. "It has been the experience of a lifetime to work with Catherine Middleton to create her wedding dress, and I have enjoyed every moment of it," said Burton. "It was such an incredible honor to be asked, and I am so proud of what we and the Alexander McQueen team have created."

It is quite apropos that the Metropolitan Museum of Art is celebrating the opening of its Alexander McQueen retrospective tonight. The exhibit, "Savage Beauty" explores McQueen's genius, craftsmanship and ability to create dramatic spectacles on the runway. Sarah Burton joined Anna Wintour and Stella McCartney to preview the exhibit. "When I walked into the exhibit, I thought of Lee," said Burton. "The passion, inspiration."

After being named head designer at McQueen, Sarah Burton's name was in the news again as the creator of the striking red gown that Michelle Obama wore to the state dinner in honor of China. The fact that the First Lady wore something designed by a Brit instead of a Chinese-American caused quite a stir.

It's safe to say that all eyes will be on the press-shy Burton for some time now. Whether or not Princess Catherine will continue to wear her designs, we can be sure that fashion fans will be clamoring to get their hands on anything Alexander McQueen.

The Royal Wedding Cake!

It was announced back on March 27th that Prince William and Catherine had chosen Leicestershire based cake designer Fiona Cairns to create their wedding cake and the official photos of the sweet stunner have been released!
The cake was a multi-tiered traditional fruit cake which was decorated with cream and white icing.  It had a strong British floral theme.

Fiona began making her confections 25 years ago at her own kitchen table and in 2001, the company moved out of their 'garden' and into a state of the art bakery in Leicestershire, in the heart of the English countryside.  She was trained as a graphic designer and pastry chef, which helps to explain how her cakes and cookies turn out to be so delightful in appearance.

Her bakeshop now makes 27,000 fairy cakes a week!  Unbelievable and that number will no doubt go way up after making the royal wedding cake last week!

McVitie's Cake Company made Prince William's chocolate biscuit cake that was served at the Buckingham palace reception from a Royal family recipe.  McVitiei's has been making cakes for the royal family going back to the marriage of His Majesty King George V to HM Queen Mary!  William's cake reportedly took 35 lbs of chocolate and approximately 1,700 McVitie's Rich Tea biscuits to create his "Groom's Cake" (and we thought that was a Southern tradition!).

If you're wondering if it might be possible to get your hands on the secret family, read this article for some clues!
