The web is abuzz this morning as reports come out of Europe early today that Duchess Catherine took inspiration from another royal wedding -- that of 36-year-old Isabella Orsini to Belgian Prince Edouard de Ligne in 2009.
The similarities between both long sleeved and lace embroidered bodices with similar v-necklines are clear.
Orsini reportedly told Italian magazine Novella 2000, "As soon as the Duchess of Cambridge went out to go to church, I thought her dress was a copy of mine. It means Kate Middleton has good taste."
The press is quickly drawing parallels between the tiaras and trains. However, as we reported on April 29th in our report on
Duchess Catherine's Tiara, the Cartier stunning sparkler belonged to the Queen. It was given to Queen Elizabeth by her mother the Queen Mum on her 18th birthday. Some things you just can't copy and Duchess Catherine couldn't have predicted what tiara (if any) she would be wearing on her wedding day. In fact, there was much debate on whether she would wear a tiara or fresh flowers up until the moment she stepped out of her hotel and into the waiting car on her wedding day, to the applause of billions around the world. The "halo" tiara, was made in 1936 and if you look at close up images of Isabella Orsini, they actually have few similarities and Duchess Catherine did not have blue gems in her crown. The simplicity of Catherine's is actually much more elegant and appropriate for a wedding day.

Duchess Catherine had a much more simple veil. The line of the dress itself was also different.

Grace Kelly's 1956 Priscilla of Boston designed gown also featured fitted lace embroidered long sleeves. It's a classic design that's been around for generations and no doubt fit for a Princess! Sarah Burton did a great job of taking a classic design and fashioning it for Kate Middleton's reserved grace and elegance.
